Let time play

sometimes just let go of urgency, allow time to be a child. Let time just play without reason or a pursuit. Just being in the moment.

Being in the now

a series of new sketches on being in the now. More meditative monks symbolizing the essence of soaking in every passing experience and switching off often.

Hidden zen messages in art

having fun with a new series where messages are hidden in the drawings within the elements. Trying phrases now across elements. These are a build up to a large size image with a full sentence made up all over the frame. Watch this space and try and find the messages in these pictures.

The samurai series

I have been drawing a few samurai moments inspired by their values. Fearless, calm and completely focused with the highest ideals, they are a great inspiration for modern day management.

Monks and typography

I tried blending 2 styles of sketching which I love and the results are interesting. The process is more than meditative and I empty my mind when I draw, imagining myself as a monk creating patterns in the garden.

Sketches inspired by the zen gardens of kyoto

I have now begun sketching the monks set within zen gardens. Many years ago I had visited Kyoto and I guess the impact still remains. The experience as I wandered through the gardens soaking in the effect of calm that permeates the space was spellbinding. Kyoto gardens was on my bucket list for the longest... Continue Reading →

The samurai in the mountain

He who conquers others is strong, He who conquers himself is mighty. -Lao Tzu A beautiful quote by Lao Tzu. I also worked on the kanji for the word Fearless within this.

The monks are back

My sketchbook is filled with monks now. It is fast evolving into my own meditation space. I blank my mind completely and let the pen do its work letting things evolve on their own. Finding kanji for values which resonate with me is exciting. The pictures tend to depict these values and then I seek... Continue Reading →

Sketching in the rain

We were at sentosa, Singapore to watch the dolphin show. Suddenly the sky turned grey and heavy rains ensued. Lightning and thunder followed and after an hour of waiting, they called off the show for safety reasons. I pulled out my sketchbook and tried to capture the moment. The rains, the wind and the Dolphins... Continue Reading →

Sketches in a Singapore coffee shop

While Travelling to Singapore, I did a few sketches at a Starbucks on orchard street. It was midnight and raining outside. While I was sketching people around me, I suddenly realised that on each table sat groups of friends busy with their phones. They were hanging out but not conversing or acknowledging each other. Smiling... Continue Reading →

What mediation is. A typographic exploration.

Here's a pic of my sketchbook where I sketched my interpretation of mediation. The central thought was about the art of thinking nothing and letting the mind become an empty bowl. It's only then that we find ourselves with complete clarity.

Thought for the day

A close friend shared this quote with me yesterday. This morning I visualized it my way and created a doodle. This was fun and inspiring at the same time.

Some explorations in hand lettering

Last night I played around with hand drawn type. I was trying to get depth and three dimension using markets and color pencils. After many wasted sheets, an interesting style emerged. I am further going to develop this style later and add layers and depth. This was meditative by the end of it, just these... Continue Reading →

Visual notes: Converting learning to doodles.

A collection of scans from my sketch books of notes I have taken at various seminars and coaching sessions. I use the notes to visually summarise the learnings such that I never forget them again. When I do glance at the notes years later, everything comes rushing back clearly. These have served me well. I... Continue Reading →

Meditation through drawing

I am suddenly enjoying illustrating detailed stylized birds. I started drawing owls and chickens and I am particularly enjoying the details of the feathers and doting on the fine elements. In these moments, I completely switch off and my mind is only seeing the pen ink these lines as it comes alive. I splashed on... Continue Reading →

Finding myself at Kilimanjaro

One of the best things I carried in my backpack on my recent trip to Kilimanjaro was a sketchbook, a fine pen and a shading marker. Everyday as we trudged in to the campsite, I would scurry into my tent and retreat into a world of my thoughts trying to bring them alive visually. Everything... Continue Reading →

Brands sans color: cool experminent

A great experiment by Andrew Miller, where he picked up iconic brands and just painted them white. What's interesting is that we can still recognise the iconic shapes sans colour!
