Dubai gets just a few days of rain every year and it becomes a momentous occasion. Radio stations bring out their romantic playlists across languages, social media posts of raindrops and wet roads jostle for attention and every one is smiling. What’s app groups remind everyone that it’s magical and encourage people to head away from the office for tea or coffee.
Cloud formations visit a city that is used to clear skies and there’s a wonderful nip in the air. There’s a sense of celebration because everyone knows there’s not too many days like this.
I wonder when friends and relatives from other parts of the world see our posts of raindrops and clouds, do they wonder as they look at their rain drenched windows, what the big deal is.
Hear are some wonderful moments from my camera yesterday as this day of blessing passed by during a dubai winter. And yes, the day was magical!
I fell in love with San Fransisco. I was there for a fleeting 2 days and tried to pack in as much across all modes of transport. I woke up in the wee hours of the morning and took a long run across the city, I jumped onto the Big bus and did a hop on […]
I was in Vegas this week and here are some pictures of the city through my iphone.
Vegas has a vibrant energy of its own and weaves its dreams for anyone who visits. I loved the kitsch, the neon, the details in the architecture, the amazing sense of service across the city and the amazing shows by Cirque de Soliel. Each hotel is themed and inspired by elements of that theme. Venice, New York, Paris and a host of themes are reflected in the best hotels in Vegas. Each hotel is a self sufficient Eco system in itself with its casinos, shopping malls, pools, world class restaurants and facilities.
I was there for just 3 days and here are some pictures from the trip.
A super amalgamation of architecture, photography, graphics, color and composition, the work of Matthias Heidrich is unique and inspiring.

Here’s some pictures from the weekend of different locations in dubai. All taken on the iphone.
I took an auto ride to the airport in mumbai this morning. Tried clicking as many pics of people along the way as I bounced about. Here’s a few which didn’t blur too much.
Was on a warm up run before the gym today and suddenly realised just how beautiful the track was. Right in the heart of Dubai lies Safa Park and a synthetic track around the park. This is where I go for my runs. I used to run at nights usually and never sensed its real natural splendor. As I went on a 5 30 am run, the place had a completely different feel.
Had to keep stopping and take pictures while jogging on the spot to keep the fitness me from frowning. Here are some moments from the run.
I was at an office in DIFC for a meeting today and the view from their conference room was awe inspiring. Here are some snapshots in black and white.
There’s a flock of pigeons that I notice everyday on my drive to work.
I see them move together and fly with passion. They hover and maneuver through the air for no rhyme or reason, circling endlessly as a flock. Then they settle down on the roof of a hospital building and suddenly break out into their flamboyant flight of fancy.
They aren’t going anywhere or have a destination or a reason to do what they do. There’s no predator hunting them or a nest they are flying to, they have this artful flutter and a looping pattern and return to sit and soak in the accolades and admiring eyes.
There’s so much to learn from their passion and joy in taking a flight of fancy for no rhyme or reason.
Richard Bach would have been proud.
We were driving in Nepal and the clouds descended. These are a series of pictures of my daughter trying to catch a cloud!
